Herts & Essex Gates is a sole-trader business operating from Hertfordshire, England. We design, manufacture, and install bespoke automated gates for residential and commercial clients across Hertfordshire, Essex, and neighbouring counties.
For the purposes of UK data protection law, we are the data controller for the personal information we hold about you. You can contact us at workshop@hertsessexgates.co.uk or by post at our workshop address, which is available on request.
We only collect information you give us directly:
• Your name, telephone number, and email address when you submit an enquiry via our contact form or ring us directly.
• The address or approximate location of your property, where you provide it to help us assess feasibility.
• Any notes or photographs you share with us in the course of discussing your project.
We do not use advertising trackers, remarketing pixels, or third-party analytics. Our website does not use cookies beyond those technically necessary for the site to function.
We use your contact details to respond to your enquiry, arrange a site visit, and send a quotation. If you become a client, we retain your details to manage your project, issue invoices, and provide after-installation service.
We do not use your data for marketing purposes. We do not add you to any mailing list. We do not sell or share your data with third parties for their own use.
The legal basis for processing your data is legitimate interest — we have a genuine business reason to process information you have sent us in order to respond to you — and, where a contract is formed, the performance of that contract.
Enquiry records where no project followed are deleted after 12 months.
Client project records — including drawings, correspondence, and invoices — are retained for seven years after the project closes. This is to meet our legal and tax obligations and to honour our long-term guarantee commitments.
You may ask us to delete your data at any time (see Your Rights, below). Where we have a legal obligation to retain records, we will tell you so.
We share your data only where necessary to complete your project:
• Our galvanising and powder-coating suppliers, who need your site address for delivery logistics.
• Our accountant, who processes invoices as part of our annual accounts.
• Statutory authorities (HMRC, courts) if required by law.
All third parties are based in the UK. We do not transfer your data outside the UK.
Under UK GDPR you have the right to:
• Access the personal data we hold about you.
• Have inaccurate data corrected.
• Request deletion of your data, subject to our legal obligations.
• Restrict or object to our processing of your data.
• Receive your data in a portable format.
To exercise any of these rights, email us at workshop@hertsessexgates.co.uk. We will respond within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, please contact us first and we will do our best to resolve the matter.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK supervisory authority for data protection. You can reach the ICO at ico.org.uk or by telephone on 0303 123 1113.
